Job Description
Title: Speech Language Pathologist/Therapist/Clinical Fellow
REPORTS TO: Building Level Administrator and Director of Special Services
JOB GOAL: To serve as the communication specialist who diagnoses and treats students with speech-language disorders that interfere with the acquisition and performance of academic and/or functional skills which allow the student to benefit from the district’s educational program.
- To follow federal, state, and local procedures during the diagnosis, placement, and treatment of students with speech-language disorders.
- To work as an integral member of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team when determining initial/ongoing eligibility, appropriate services, and IEP goals.
- To assist and guide classroom teachers and parents in observing, describing, and referring children with suspected speech-language disorders.
- To serve as a communication consultant for classroom teachers and ensure that students with speech-language disorders access and progress in their educational environment.
- To provide information, support, and counsel to parents and families of students with speech-language disorders, when appropriate.
- To correctly follow due process guidelines and timelines regarding IEP conferences and reevaluation for students
- To schedule and provide appropriate speech-language services as outlined in the IEP.
- To maintain accurate records, including but not limited to, therapy logs, student’s progress notes, and progress summaries according to local and Medicaid guidelines.
- To correctly follow procedures and complete required forms from the Medicaid Program for billing of eligible students.
- To attend conferences/in-services to remain current on speech-language issues, evidence-based practice and federal and state due process guidelines.
- To perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in the area of speech language pathology or communication disorders.
- Valid South Carolina Certification as Speech Language Pathologist.

Working Conditions:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
EVALUATION:
- Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with ADEPT Specialty Areas observation instrument.
